Canva in the Classroom
For this assignment I chose to use Canva to create an artifact! I have used Canva in the past for maybe one or two high school assignments but it has never actually crossed my mind to use it as a teacher. After looking through the website and becoming familiar with all of its tools, I have found that it will be an incredible resource to use in my classroom. Not only can I create my own resources to use but I can also look up pre-made resources and use them as is or customize them to fit my specific needs for my classroom. It is incredibly easy to use and navigate. You do not need an account to initially create resources or use the website but in order to access your creations at a later date, you must create an account. Like most websites, there are different levels of accounts you can have. I decided to sign up for the free account which provides me with the basic tools and resources to use for my classroom. This comes with an incredibly large amount of templates, pictures, graphics, fonts, and tools. With my free account I was able to create this Classroom Weekly Newsletter to share with my parents each week. This would have been such a useful resource to keep my student's parents up to date with what is going on in our classroom. The more communication with families, the better! I definitely plan on using this template for the upcoming school year with my new group of students. The cool thing about this website is that it could be used for all ages, all subject areas and classrooms. The templates and ideas this website provides are endless! Teachers could use Canva to create powerpoint presentations, anchor chart posters, curriculum resources, family newsletters, and anything else you could think of. I would say that for primary grades, only the teachers would be able to use this website but for the intermediate and secondary grades, both teachers and students would be able to use this website to create recourses as well as creative assignments. A tip for future users, don't reinvent the wheel! Look up a template of what you are hoping to create and choose one that you can customize to meet your specific needs. That is the beauty of this website!
